Ichthyosaur Museum Replica
Tyrannosaurus Rex Dinosaur Skull Museum Replica
Jurassic Period, 200 Million years BP
A museum-quality composite reproduction of a juvenile Ichthyosaur of the Jurassic Period from Holzmaden, Germany.
The Ichthyosaurus, whose name in Greek means fish-lizard, could swim at approximately 25 mph (40 kph). Ichthyosaurs resemble modern dolphins in that they gave birth to live young, had a tall dorsal fin, half-moon-shaped tail, paddle-like flippers and smooth skin. It had massive ear bones and large eyes, probably giving it acute hearing and sight which helped in the hunting of its prey which consisted mosty of fish and cephalopods. Large nubers of Ichthyosaurus fossils have been found in England, Germany, Greenland, and Alberta, Canada.
